Assembly
Lay out five Fabric A and four Fabric B 2½" x 2½" squares to make a Nine Patch block.  Sew squares in horizontal rows and press toward the dark squares.  Sew the rows together and press either direction.

Sew two Fabric C Side Background rectangles 1½" x 6½", to opposite sides of the Nine Patch Block.  Press toward rectangles.  The bottom part of your block is finished!

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of both Roof Background 4½" x 4½" squares.  Place a square right sides together on one end of the 4½" x 8½" Fabric D Roof rectangle.  Stitch on the diagonal line.  Trim the seam allowance to ¼" and press toward the background triangle.  Repeat with the second square at the other end of the rectangle.

Sew the rooftop to the top of the Nine Patch block.  Press toward Nine Patch.

Try it Another Way

I used a Nine Patch block for the house, but you can use other simple, traditional blocks.  The blocks need to measure 6" x 6" finished (6½" x 6½" with seam allowances).  You can also use a plain square for each house.
