Dirt Dessert

When my children were younger, the month of May at our house meant the end of numerous school year activities. We were often attending potluck good-bye dinners and picnics throughout the month. This recipe was one of our favorites. Not only does it taste good, but it's one of the most fun desserts I've ever prepared since it's served in a metal pail or flower pot and embellished on the top with gummy worms, a trowel, toy frogs, or other outdoor creatures of your choice!

1 package of Oreo cookies
2 small boxes of instant chocolate pudding
2   8 oz. packages of cream cheese
3 cups of Cool Whip topping
2 cups of powdered sugar
Gummy worms (put them in the freezer to harden them)
Silk flowers, a trowel, a toy frog, etc.

Make the chocolate pudding. Crush the Oreos. Blend the cream cheese, Cool
Whip, and powdered sugar. Set aside some of the crushed Oreos. Using a metal pail or flower pot, layer the Oreos, then the cream cheese mixture, then the chocolate pudding. Repeat to layer again -- first the Oreos, then the cream cheese mixture, and finally the chocolate pudding. Sprinkle the reserved crushed Oreo's on top -- to look like dirt!

Stick the gummy worms into the "dirt" (they're easy to stick in because they are hard). Embellish the top surface with silk flowers, a trowel (clean or brand new), a toy frog or any other outdoor creature of your choice. This makes a great potluck or picnic dish. It's so much fun to look at and delicious to eat! Enjoy!
