SMALL BITES in a BASKET

I love intense, saturated, rich colors (red is my favorite), and I also love Basket blocks. Inspired by a quilt and class titled "Ginger Snap, Nine Patch" taught years ago by Margy Duncan at In The Beginning Fabrics in Seattle, I decided to adapt Margy's Ginger Snap pattern to Four Patch blocks. I started with a basket block, creating a center medallion. For the first time in the Small Bites patterns, 3 variations are offered for this center block - a pieced basket, an appliqued basket, and a basket that combines both - piecing with a braided handle. Another innovation in this pattern is the "Leftovers" quilt, made only from leftover strips and squares after "Small Bites in a Basket" was finished. The rules for "Leftovers" are inside this pattern, creating a fun challenge for those pesky, what-will-I-do-with-them, leftover blocks.

SMALL BITES with COFFEE & DONUTS

This quilt is the third in a series of Small Bites quilts that features tertiary colors. The tertiary colors are those that are created using a primary color and a secondary color: red violet, red orange, yellow orange, yellow green, blue green, and blue violet. Two other Small Bites quilts feature these colors, Small Bites of Confetti at Midnight and Small Bites, Small World. In Small Bites of Confetti at Midnight, the tertiary colors are paired with a black background. In Small Bites, Small World, the tertiary colors are paired with both black and white. In this quilt, the tertiary colors are paired with white. Which combination is your favorite? If you want to make this quilt, but like the black background in Small Bites of Confetti at Midnight, substitute a black fabric instead of white!

SMALL BITES with GRILLED CHEESE & TOMATO SOUP

The inspiration for this quilt comes from two of my favorite comfort foods - grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. The colors in this quilt are cheddar - a yellow orange that is more yellow than orange - and red or red-orange. These are colors that are warm, and a little bright and exciting, too. I added brown, currently a very popular color, for contrast. Many quilters are making blue and brown quilts, like Small Bites with Baby, so I began thinking about what other colors brown would pair with - and decided to try cheddar and red or red-orange.

SMALL BITES with BABY

When my daughter, Kate, gave birth to Maceo in April, 2009, I couldn't wait to make him a baby quilt. I quickly discovered that the size of Small Bites quilts was perfect for babies! Kate requested blue and brown for Maceo's room, so the color choices were already made for me. This quilt also makes a great wall quilt, or, when more blocks are added, a stunning queen sized quilt. Whatever size you choose to make, in whatever colors, enjoy this next Small Bites quilt.

SMALL BITES, SMALL WORLD

Small Bites, Small World is the second in a series exploring tertiary colors – yellow green, yellow orange, red violet, red orange, blue violet, and blue green. The addition of black and white adds a little drama – and a little variation from the first quilt in this series, Small Bites of Confetti at Midnight. That quilt had a black background while this one incorporates equal amounts of black and white.

SMALL BITES of CONFETTI at MIDNIGHT

I love playing with colors, and in this quilt, Small Bites with Confetti at Midnight,  you will play with the 6 tertiary colors – yellow green, yellow orange, red violet, red orange, blue violet, and blue green - and black.

SMALL BITES with SANTA

The third offering in the Small Bites Series, this quilt features shining stars that stand out against a background of rich purples, reds, greens, golds and blacks.  It's the perfect quilt to snuggle under while you try to catch a glimpse of the Jolly One himself.

SMALL BITES with TEDDY BEARS

Small Bites with Teddy Bears was created especially for Country Quilts and Bears, a wonderful quilt store in Clearwater, Florida.  The colors were chosen to go with the blue water of the nearby ocean and the wonderful colors of handmade bears created by Francy Gordon and displayed in the quilt shop.  Red was added for color, contrast and warmth.  Have fun with this second Small Bites quilt!

SMALL BITES in SEATTLE

With these quilts and desserts, you will experience "smaller" quilts than my traditional dessert quilts in my Sweat Treats books, and "small" desserts to go with each quilt.  By small desserts, I mean a dessert recipe that makes a small amount - a dessert that serves 1-2 people and then it's gone.  No leftovers to tempt you, but still a delicious small amount to satisfy your sweet tooth.  Whatever dessert you are hungry for, if you only want 1 or 2 servings, Small Bites are for you!  Please enjoy my first Small Bites quilt!

Featuring a recipe for mini Chocolate Cake with Double Sour Cream Frosting
