This
quilt features six complementary colors and two values. The
complements are red and green, yellow and purple, and orange and
blue. The warm colors -- red, yellow, and orange -- are featured in
light values only. I chose pink (light red), peach (light orange)
and light yellow fabrics. The cool colors -- green, blue, and purple
-- are featured in medium values only. I also included many medium
to large scale prints, plaids and strips in my fabric choices, not
just small and medium scale fabrics.
FINISHED QUILT SIZE: 82½” x 82½”

6 medium purple fabrics
6 medium blue fabrics

Backing fabric: 5 1/3 yards
Batting (without border): 87" x 87"
SUPPLIES:
Sewing machine in good working order.
Sewing supplies you regularly use such as thread, straight pins,
scissors, seam ripper, etc.
Rotary cutting equipment: mat (18" x 24"), ruler (6" x 24") and
cutter with sharp blade.
Bias Square Ruler, 6" x 6", or another 6" square ruler.
New Item: Square Ruler, 6" x 6" (not the same as a Bias Square
ruler). You may be using this ruler already rather than a Bias
Square ruler. This ruler, with it's vertical and horizontal lines as
well as it's diagonal line, will allow you to cut certain blocks in
this quilt to size much easier than a Bias Square Ruler.
Note: The Bias Square ruler is much easier to use when cutting Half
Square Triangles in this quilt, which is why it is included in this
supply list, too.
CUTTING
From each fabric, cut:
1 strip, 4½" x 42".
1 strip, 3½" x 42"
From each 4½" wide strip, cut 5 squares, 4½" x 4½", and 3 squares,
4" x 4". The 4½" squares become Half Square Triangles. Mark the back
of the light (pink, peach, light yellow) squares on the diagonal
with a ballpoint pen or pencil. Do not mark the back of the medium
squares. Set aside the 4" x 4" squares (108 total).
From each 3½" wide strip, cut 6 squares 3" x 3" (216 squares total).
Cut these squares on the diagonal to form triangles (432 total). Set
these aside. Cut the remaining 3½" strip in half horizontally to
create 2 strips, 1¾" x approximately 24" long. These long strips
will become Four Patches.
Borders: From 8 of the darker medium fabrics (blues, purples,
greens), cut one strip, 8½" x 42". Cut each strip into two big
rectangles, 8½" x 21". Piece 15 of these rectangles together end to
end to create one very long strip. From this strip, cut 1 border 8½"
x 66½". Label this border #1 and label the "Top" where you began.
Then cut another border 8½" x 82½". Label this border #2 and label
the "Top" where you began. Then cut another border 8½" x 66½". Label
this border #3 and label the "Top" where you began. Then cut the
final border 8½" x 82½". Label this border #4 and label the "Top"
where you began.
