Using your
choice of colors, but all light values of those colors, you will
create a charming quilt while learning how to produce contrast with
light fabrics. The look of this quilt is reminiscent of those your
grandmother might have made. Of course, the recipe is included in
your pattern.
You’ll need
32 light colored fabrics, and a single background fabric. For the
colored fabrics, choose small prints, plaids, and stripes. Make sure
all your colored fabrics are light values. Be careful not to choose
medium values.
FINISHED QUILT SIZE: 44½” x 55”
YARDAGE
& CUTTING:
32 colored fabrics, cut as follows:
2 squares each, 4” x 4” of:
4 different yellow fabrics, (8 yellow squares total)
4 different blue fabrics, (8 blue squares total)
4 different red fabrics, (8 red squares total)
4 different purple fabrics, (8 purple squares total)
4 different pink fabrics, (8 pink squares total)
4 different black and white fabrics, (8 black and white squares
total)
4 different green fabrics, (8 green squares total)
4 different gold or tan fabrics, (8 gold or tan squares total)
Also cut from the leftover colored fabrics, 32 squares, 2” x 2”.
Use variety.
Background fabric:
3 yards, cut as follows:
64 squares, 4” x 4”
128 rectangles, 2” x 3½”
4 squares, 12½” x 12½” for side triangles
2 squares, 8” x 8” for corner triangles
5 strips, 2” x 42” for binding
Backing fabric: 3 yards (horizontal seam)
ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES:
Sewing machine in good working order
Sewing supplies you regularly use such as thread, straight pins,
scissors, seam ripper, etc.
Rotary cutting equipment: mat (18” x 24”), ruler (6” x 24”) and
cutter with sharp blade.
Bias Square Ruler, or 6” x 6” Square Ruler. This is important. |
