PERIWINKLE CUPCAKE QUILT

Supply List

Periwinkle Cupcake is a quilt that features all periwinkle (blue-violet) and white fabrics. This quilt whispers calmness and serenity. Creating it is a beautiful way to celebrate the beginning of spring or to create some lightness and brightness in the fall and winter. A recipe for periwinkle cupcakes is included. You've never heard of them? Believe me, you'll love them.

Periwinkle is a challenging color to choose even though many of us love it. Be careful not to choose fabrics that are really purple rather than periwinkle. Remember that periwinkle is BLUE VIOLET. That means it has both blue and violet (purple) in it. I started choosing fabrics by looking at both the blues and the purples in the fabric store. If there were fabrics in with the blues that looked purple, often they were really periwinkle. If there were fabrics in with the purples that looked blue, often they were periwinkle. Try this and see if this helps you select true periwinkles.

CUTTING

Cut from each of the medium and dark periwinkle fabrics:
1 strip, 3½" x 42". From this strip, cut 12 squares, 3½" x 3½". These squares will be used in the Half Square Triangle Blocks.
2 strips, 1¾ " x 42". These strips will be used in the small Four Patch Blocks.
1 strip, 3" x 42". From this strip, cut 8 squares, 3" x 3".

Cut from 4 of the darkest medium and dark periwinkle fabrics:
1 additional strip, 3" x 42". These strips will be used in the large Four Patch Blocks. Set them aside. Do not cut them.

Cut from the white fabric:
9 strips, 3½ " x 42". From these strips, cut a total of 108 squares, 3½" x 3½". These squares will be used in the Half Square Triangle Blocks.
18 strips, 1¾ " x 42". These strips will be used in the small Four Patch Blocks.
3 strips, 3" x 42". From these strips cut 36 squares, 3" x 3".

Cut from the light periwinkle fabric:
5 squares, 12½" x 12½”. Cut these squares on both diagonals to yield 20 side triangles.
2 squares, 12" x 12". Cut these squares on one diagonal only to yield 4 corner triangles.
