FINISHED QUILT SIZE: 49" x 49"

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS:

¼ yard each of 2 different red violet, red orange, yellow orange, blue green, and blue violet fabrics (10 different fabrics total)

¼ yard of 3 different yellow green fabrics

1½ yards of solid white

22 leftover  2½” x 42” strips in tertiary colors from previous tertiary quilts (above) or 22 strips, 2½” x 42”, in tertiary colors, cut  from fabric purchased for this quilt.

BACKING: 3 yards

BATTING: 55" x 55”

BINDING: ½ yard

SUPPLIES:

Sewing machine in good working order

Sewing supplies you regularly use such as thread, straight pins, scissors, seam ripper, etc.

Rotary cutting equipment: mat (18” x 24”), ruler (6” x 24”), and cutter with a sharp blade

18” square ruler or larger square ruler

12 ½” square ruler, optional but helpful

CUTTING 

For the Donuts:

From each red violet, yellow orange, blue green, and blue violet fabric, cut 1 strip, 2” X  42”. From each strip, but 8 rectangles, 2” x 5”. There will be 64 rectangles, total.

From 1 of the red orange fabrics, cut 1 strip, 2” x 42”. From this strip, cut 8 rectangles, 2” x 5”.

From the other red orange fabric, cut 2 strips, 2” x 42”. From these strips, cut 12 rectangles, 2” x 5”. There will be 20 red orange rectangles, total.

From 2 of the yellow green fabrics, cut 1 strip from each fabric, 2” x 42”. From each strip, cut 8 rectangles, 2” x 5”. There will be 16 yellow green rectangles, total.

Note: There will be one additional yellow green fabric you haven't cut yet. You will use it for the posts. See below.

There will now be 100 rectangles, 2” x 5”, total.

Donut Holes, background, and sashing:

From the white fabric cut 3 strips, 3½” x 42”.  From these strips, cut 25 squares, 3½” x 3½”. These will become the donut holes.

From the white fabric cut 5 strips, 2” x 42”. From these strips cut 100 squares, 2” x 2”. These will become the triangles that are the background for the donuts. MARK THE DIAGONAL ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THESE SQUARES WITH A PEN OR PENCIL.

From the white fabric, cut 11 strips, 2” x 42”. From these strips, cut 64 rectangles, 2” x 6½”. These will become the sashing.

Posts:

From the one remaining yellow green fabric, cut 2 strips, 2” x 42”. From these strips, cut 40 squares, 2” x 2”. These will become the posts.

Side and corner triangles:

You will cut 2½” x 42” strips from leftover red violet, red orange, yellow orange, yellow green, blue green, and blue violet fabrics, or use leftover strips from previous quilts that feature tertiary colors. You will need a total of 22 strips.
